Brief

The photo below was shared on social media. It clearly depicts a train station.
Please answer the following questions:

a) What is the name of the train station seen in the photo?
b) What is the name and height of the tallest structure seen in the photo?

Method

What is the name of the train station seen in the photo?

The name “Flinders Street” is seen on multiple signs in the photo. Searching for “Flinders Street station” comes up with a train station in Melbourne, Australia.

Looking through the photographs included on the Wikipedia page for Flinders Street station yields a photo that confirms this to be the same location.

The red-brown high-rise buildings on the right are clearly shown in the brief photo

What is the name and height of the tallest structure seen in the photo?

The first step here is to determine which of the buildings is actually the tallest.

The two candidates from the brief photo are shown below:

While Building 2 does appear to be a tall building, Building 1 is a tower, which are often purpose-built for height.

Google Earth Pro shows them as very similar in height, so some further research will be needed.

Building 1 is the Arts Centre Melbourne, and has a spire that was completed in 1996 and reaches 162m.

Building 2 is the FOCUS Apartments by Central Equity, which tops out at 167m and renders it the tallest structure in the brief image.
