Brief
Task briefing:
Sometimes online footage contains more information than meets the eye. In October 2023, I uploaded a video to my YouTube channel where, for a split second between minute 3 and 4, my desktop wallpaper is partially visible.
Your task is to:
a) Find the title of the illustration, as given by the artist.
b) Find how much it would cost for the artist to create a similar piece, in size and detail.
Note: Please do not contact or harass the artist in any way. You are not required to interact with them to complete these tasks.
Method
Find the title of the illustration, as given by the artist
The exercise page has a link to Sofia’s YouTube channel, which I click and look at her videos from October 2023. She has a promising-looking video from 24th October 2023 entitled Filetype: The Best Advanced Search Operator for OSINT Investigations?; I reason that this is a good place to start, rather than on one of the walkthrough videos for the other OSINT challenges.
I skip to 3:00 in the video and start watching; there are a few screen flickers, caused by pages loading, but nothing unusual until 3:38 where an image very briefly flashes up.
Running a Google Image search for this brings me to the portfolio page for the artist Adam Scythe. The image is shown, but no title accompanies it.
The Google Image search itself, however, suggests a title of “Involuntary Rat Queen”. Searching for this title, along with the artist’s name, brings me to the artist’s DeviantArt page, which confirms the title.
Find how much it would cost for the artist to create a similar piece, in size and detail
The artist’s DeviantArt page has a link for “Commission Info”, which shows a number of levels of example illustrations along with prices.
While Involuntary Rat Queen isn’t shown, very similar pieces in terms of style, size, and detail are, with the pricing shown below:
The price for a piece similar to Involuntary Rat Queen, in size and detail, would start at $190.
